I never would have thought the most moving argument for same-sex marriage I would hear would come from a life-long Republican and veteran. The final song is ‘Why Does the Sun Really Shine?,’ a follow-up to ‘Why Does the Sun Shine?,’ a 1959 folk tune they famously covered. The new track corrects some factual errors TMBG’s scientist fans pointed out; the original chorus, ‘The sun is mass of incandescent gas,’ becomes ‘The sun is a miasma of incandescent plasma.’ When it comes to science education, that’s leading by example.”

Here’s a great video from 1953 in which Les Paul - along with his wife, Mary Ford - explains how his invention of multi-track recording works to Allistair Cooke. It’s also wonderful as Paul uses his namesake guitar to demonstrate just what an amazing musician he is. I think it’s pretty hard to overstate Paul’s influence on modern music and recording. People may credit others for inventing Rock N Roll, but the way we know it today way was started by Les Paul. (via BoingBoing)
